Abstract
The Specification describes the production of germanium telluride to form one of the thermo-electric elements of a thermo-couple. In the specific example 72.6 grams of germanium and 127.61 grams of tellurium are put in a quartz bulb which is evacuated and sealed. The bulb was heated to 800 DEG C. at which the mixture is molten and the bulb agitated to ensure mixing. The bulb was then allowed to cool at room temperature. Next the bulb was suspended in the top zone of a vertical tube furnace having two heating zones both twelve inches long. The bulb was lowered from the middle of the top zone at 800 DEG C., at a rate of two inches/hour to the middle of the lower zone at 700 DEG C.ALSO:The Specification describes the production of germanium telluride to form one of the thermo-electric elements of a thermocouple.
