Abstract

876,105. Sealing containers. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. June 16, 1960 [Oct. 12, 1959], No. 34573/59. Class 66. An end 1 of a metal container has a pouring aperture 3 and a vent aperture 4 covered by a thin sealing strip 6 having a pull tag 9 and secured to the container end by a thermosetting polymer paste located in a channel area 5 of the end, the said area 5 and strip 6 being coated with lacquer. The strip 6 may be of aluminium, tin plate, polyvinyl chloride film, foil, treated paper or fabric, or polypropylene ; the polymer paste may be a cured suspension of polyvinyl chloride pigment in dioctyl phthalate ; and the lacquer may be a vinyl-based lacquer. The paste is stored, after the sealing strip 6 is applied, in order to cure it and thereby secure the sealing strip. The channel 5 and vent 4 may be omitted. The container and its end 1 may be of non-metal material.
