A cowling 1, Fig. 1, is affixed to chimneys or ventilator shafts of various diameters by an adjustable cylindrical sleeve which comprises slidably interchangeable arcuate plates 2, 3, Fig. 2, each of which has a bracket 4 secured thereto in alignment with a similar bracket 10 carried by the cowling. Each bracket pair and that part of the cowling to which the bracket 10 is secured have axially aligned holes those of bracket 4 being internally threaded so that a wing-headed bolt 7-rotation of which effects sleeve diameter adjustment-may engage therein at its inner end. In a modified combination of cowling and mounting means the sleeve is replaced by an arrangement comprising a plurality of bracket pairs, each of which pairs 41, 101, Fig. 5, has aligned holes (not shown) to accommodate a bolt 7 (not shown) by which relative movement between the brackets 41, 101, is effected. Each bracket 101 is connected to the cowling whilst the lower leg of each bracket 4<SP>1</SP> is forked and bent at 12 in order to grip the inner surface of the chimney or shaft. If the position of each bracket 4<SP>1</SP> is reversed with respect to the associated bracket 10<SP>1</SP> a change of diameter, i.e. the dimension between diametrically opposed bracket forks 12, which may be in the proximity of 2 or 3 inches is obtained without rotation of the bolts 7.
