Class 97(3) In a school-type drawing compass in which a pair of legs pivoted together have a point on the longer leg and a pencilreceiving bracket 4 on the shorter leg 2, the bracket 4 is of part-cylindrical form with flat upper and lower faces.5, 6, and the screw-thread 8 to receive a knurled nut 9 extends from the inner end or from adjacent the inner end to a point short of the outer end so as to leave a plain unthreaded stop collar 12 at the outer end. The bracket 4 is separate from the leg 2 and initially the plain inner end 11 is of smaller width than the remaining portion. After screw-threading, the nut 9 is placed in position and leg 2 forced into a square hole in the plain end portion 11 being secured if necessary by brazing or welding.
