Abstract

912,997. Hand-rail standards. STEVENS BROS. (WELDERS) Ltd. Sept. 5, 1961 [Sept. 29, 1960], No. 33457/60. Class 45. A hand rail standard comprises a tubular shank 1 having fixed thereto a base plate 3 and a separate hollow bulb 4 formed with a diametral passage. At least one other bulb 6 may be incorporated in the shank. The hollow bulbs may be formed from sheet material cupped and bent into the shape of a spheriod or may be formed in two halves. Conveniently the bulbs present either a spigot or two coaxial spigots which may be of a diameter to abut the end of the shank or may be arranged to fit within or over the end of the shank to which they may be welded. In another embodiment the diametral passage is in the form of an elongated slot and the bulb encloses a hollow ball formed with a diametral passage of circular cross-section. The balls rotate within the bulbs to suit the angle of the hand rail.
