875,739. Machine-tool details. MASCHINENFABRIK FRORIEP G.m.b.H. Feb. 4, 1959 [Feb. 4, 1958], No. 3971/59. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXXIV] A guideway for slides &c. of machine tools has the surface pressure in one part thereof variable by an applied force. A slide 2 on a bed 1 is moved by a pinion 3 engaging a rack 4 on the bed 1. The driving force of the pinion, particularly if its direction of rotation is reversed, urges the slide 2 away from its engagement with the guideway, and a compensation force is applied by a device consisting of U- shaped pressure plates 5, 6 having an inflatable tube 7 therebetween, the plate 6 being attached to the slide. The tube 7 is pressurized by a pneumatic or hydraulic pressure medium which is supplied through a tube 8, an increased pressure serving to clamp the slide to the guideway. In a modification the tube 7 is replaced by adjustable spring-operated pressure rollers. Specification 244,288 is referred to.
