Abstract

875,087. Elevated monorail switch points. ALWEG-FORSCHUNG G.m.b.H. March 20, 1959 [March 20, 1958], No. 9795/59. Class 104 (2). In an arrangement for bridging the gap 4 between the switch 1 and the adjoining sections 2 or 3 of an elevated mono-railway by means of fingered structures, a finger plate 6, arranged horizontally at the end of the switch 1, has fingers 11 of trapezoidal cross-section and like finger plates 7 are arranged at the ends of the adjoining sections 3, the top faces of the finger plates 6, 7 are flush in their normal horizontal position and one of the finger plates is swingable in an upward direction about a horizontal axis 15. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the side edges 17 of the fingers 11 and 12 on the finger plates 6 and 7 are inclined upwardly and outwardly to the vertical axis at an angle greater than the angle of friction on such axis. The fingers 11 ride over the fingers 12 as the switch blade 1 is moved from one operative position to the other. The plate 6 is downwardly biased by a spring 18 against stop 20, 21. The fingers 13 and 14 on the guide track finger plates 9 and 10 are rectangular in cross-section. The bottom face of the plate 6 rests on a plate 16 when the switch is in the operative position. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 7 (not shown), the plate 6 when the switch 6 is moved, is lifted, until reaching the operative position, by cam thereon engaging a bar provided with inclined ends and supported on cantilever beams mounted on the end of the adjoining sections 2 or 3. The inclined sides of the fingers 11 and 12 are case hardened.
