Abstract
874,834. Securing wrenches on shafts. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. Oct. 7, 1958 [Dec. 23, 1957], No. 31961/58. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXII] Means for retaining a wrench-socket for a rotary power-operated tool on its driving shank, comprises a shank 15 having a portion 19 of non-circular cross-section for driving a detachable socket 20, secured thereto by a detent 34, locked by a plunger 46 slidable in an axial bore 44 in the shank, the plunger when moved axially, releasing the detent for removal of the socket. The socket 20 is splined at 26 to engage splines 24 on the shank 19, a chamfer 27 contacting the detent 34. To remove the socket, the plunger 46 is pushed by a screwdriver &c. 60, against a spring 54 until the detent 34 is aligned with a recess 59 in the plunger 46, and may be retracted by a bevelled surface 40 on the socket. In a modification, the splined driving connection is replaced by one of polygonal form.
