Abstract

Hardened epoxide resins are made by hardening at room or higher temperature a composition comprising an epoxide resin containing more than one but not more than two epoxy groups per average molecule, either a catalytic amine hardener or an amine addition hardener which to bring about cross-linking must contain more than two active hydrogen atoms attached to nitrogen atoms per molecule and, as a reactive diluent a primary amine. The diglycidyl ether of bis-phenol is the specified epoxy resin and specified amine hardeners are diethylethanolamine and diaminodiphenyl methane whilst specified reactive diluents are 2-ethyl hexylamine, n-butylamine, benzylamine, aniline and cyclohexylamine. In the examples, an epoxy resin is hardened by reaction with: (1) diaminodiphenyl methane or diaminodiphenyl methane and 2-ethylhexylamine, (2) diethyl ethanolamine or diethylethanolamine and aniline and (3) diethylethanolamine or diethylethanolamine and cyclohexylamine.
