A device for bending one piece chain links comprising a mandrel, which remains stationary during the bending operations and is of the internal form of the chain link, and a carrier, movable in relation to the mandrel, upon which two bending levers are pivoted, which levers carry bending rollers on their ends. Wire 1 is fed through a previously formed chain link 6 and is pressed against a two-part mandrel 5 by a holder 3. A carrier 10 is then moved to the right, Figs. 1, 2, by a piston 8 so that rollers 14, 15 on arms 11, 12 pivoted at 13 to the carrier 10 bend the wire in a U-shape round the mandrel 5. The arms 11, 12 are connected by links 26, 27 to piston-rods 20, 21 which contact abutments 30, 31, as the carrier 10 moves to the right, to move the rollers 14, 15 inwards. The piston 18 of the rod 20 is then put under hydraulic pressure to cause the roller 14 to bend one end of the wire close to the mandrel 5, Fig. 6. The lever 11 is then moved out and the lever 12 and roller 15 moved in to bend the other end of the wire close to the mandrel. With both levers 11, 12 in their outer position the carriage 10 is moved to the left to the position in Fig. 1. The two halves of the mandrel 5 are separated by cylinders 35, 36 to release the formed link which is then rotated 90 degrees by a rack 38 and moved into the position occupied by the previous formed link 6 by tong means 32 operated by an hydraulic cylinder 33. Instead of being hydraulically operated the levers 11, 12 may be operated by pneumatic, electric, electromagnetic or spring means.
