Abstract

149,429. Roberts & Co., C., and Greaves, J. R. May 13, 1919. Angular bending; making chains.-In apparatus for making links, shackles, rings, &c., a bar 3 is placed in the transverse slot of a table 2, which is moved by an hydraulic plunger 15 or otherwise towards two pivoted jaws 4. which are actuated by the table to bend the bar round the die. 4<x>. The jaws are connected by a toggle 6, the pin 7 of which engages a slot 9, and when the movement of the table causes the end of the slot to engage the pin 7 the jaws 4 are turned on their pivots to close on the work. The reverse movement of the table opens the jaws 4 by means of inclines 2<x> or by an opposite end of the slot 9 engaging the pin 7, and then causes a fixed stop 14 to press the scarfed ends of the bar against the die 4<x>. The link is then removed for welding. The table has a longitudinal recess 11 to receive a finished link through which the bar 3 is inserted; stops for positioning the bar may be provided.
