Abstract
874,295. Ice-making. VILTER MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 5, 1959 [Aug. 27, 1959], No. 37492/59. Class 29 In flake ice-making apparatus in which water is sprayed from annular header 19 on to the inner surface 17 of a vertical cylindrical evaporator 8 and knives 16 carried by rotor 12 remove the ice in flakes which fall through the bottom of the machine to a collector, scrapers 45, 46 carried also by the rotor remove ice from the lower part of surface 17 and from the undersurface of the bottom plate 30 of the evaporator. Unfrozen water is collected in an annular gutter 22 which is prevented from rotating by having its discharge pipe 24 passing through an aperture in the wall 9 of spider 11 which supports the evaporator. The gutter has a central hub which embraces an eccentric 23 on the rotor 12. This causes the gutter so to gyrate that that part which is under the knives 16 is displaced outwards of the surface 17 so that the flake ice will not fall into the gutter. Ice removed by scrapers 45, 46 falls through the spider 11 and into the gutter respectively. Pipe 24 feeds into a collecting chamber 25 from which water can be recirculated to header 19. A heater 50 around wall 9 also prevents ice accumulation. The bottom bearing 37 of rotor 12 can be removed through the bottom of the apparatus.
