Abstract
874,169. Valves. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., HEINRICH. July 24, 1959 [July 24, 1958], No. 25544/59. Class 135. A rotary disc valve, Fig. 1, comprising a housing 3, 4, 5, 8 defining a passage for fluid to be controlled by the valve and a rotatable valve disc 15 having a port which can be brought into and out of register with the passage by rotation of the disc, is characterized by a flexible inflatable sealing ring 22 which engages a sealing surface of the valve disc and is capable of being inflated and deflated in situ, the sealing ring being arranged upon a removable member 10 carried by the valve housing. The disc is rotatable by a wheel and worm 17, 18. A framework 34, 36, Fig. 4, is attachable to the housing to locate and support the removable member 10 when it is withdrawn from the housing for servicing of the sealing ring. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, the rotatable disc 13 of a change-over valve having an inlet 25 and two outlets 26, 27 is provided with a tubular deflector 30 connected at one end to the disc round the port opening 29 thereof, the other end of this deflector carrying a ring 31 rotatably located in the housing. Two inflatable sealing rings 22 are carried by the removable member 10, these rings encircling openings in this member corresponding to the two outlets 26, 27. Specification 348,975 is referred to.
