Abstract
874,094. Rolling tubes. PHOENIX-RHEINROHR AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT VEREINIGTE HUTTEN - UND ROHRENWERKE. July 9, 1958 [July 9, 1957], No. 22077/58. Class 83 (4). In a method of reducing the bore of a thickwalled pipe by passing it in an axial directon between skew rolls, the pipe and a cylindrical mandrel mounted within and in fixed relationship to the end are advanced to a position between the rolls at which an internal flange is formed at the end of the pipe to provide an abutment by which the pipe may be subsequently pushed into the roll pass so as to be moved axially over the mandrel to produce a uniform extension of the remaining part of the pipe. The rear end of the pipe bears against an abutment d (not shown) so fixed on the mandrel that the end face f of the inner mandrel e is situated before rolling at a desired distance behind the end of the pipe. As the mandrel is advanced the end of the pipe b impinges against the rolls a and the end portion i is deformed to a flange shape. For processing pipes of varying length the pipe b and the internal mandrel e are each moved by separate pushing-in devices against an arresting device t which is then removed and the two pushing-in devices are coupled to advance the pipe and mandrel between the rolls a. In another form, Fig. 5, a pipe bl is closed at one end by a thin end-plate w which limits the relative movement of the mandrel end stud q.
