Abstract
874,063. Tube walls for furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. (Soc. Francaise des Constructions Babcock & Wilcox). April 6, 1960, No. 12171/60. Class 51 (1). Vertical tubes 2 supporting a pressure-tight casing 7 and tubes 8 arranged around the walls of a vapour generator are fed with working fluid so that they are maintained at a predetermined temperature. Tie-bars 4 connecting the tubes 2 are maintained at the same temperature by loops 5<SP>1</SP> of tubes 5 connected to the bearer tubes 2. The tubes 8 are arranged in horizontal bands, each extending half-way round the furnace and being connected to the next band by vertical tube parts, Figs. 4 and 5. The tubes 8 have expansion bands 9 at the corners of the furnace, and are suspended from bars connected to the bearer tubes 2 so that they can move horizontally. The bands of tubes 8 are spaced apart slightly, and bands at different levels in the furnace are heated to different temperatures. Since the bearer tubes 2 and the bars 4 are maintained at a constant temperature during operation, the differential thermal expansion is accommodated by the expansion bends 9 and the vertical tube sections between bands.
