Abstract

873,962. Filters. GRUNDWASSERBAUTEN A.G., FUER. July 15, 1958 [Sept. 6, 1957], No. 22582/58. Class 46. Water from a swimming pool 7 filled to the level 15 passes along a conduit 11 which includes a valve 16 acting as a flow resistance and flows over the edge 14 of a filter container 1, whence it is withdrawn by a pump 5 and returned, filtered, along a conduit 6 to another part of the pool (not shown). The rate of delivery of the pump and the flow resistance of conduit 11 and valve 16 are all adjusted so that the level in container 10 above container 1 is substantially below the upper end, 13, of an overflow pipe 12, the end 13 being slightly below the level 15. Upon reversal of direction of the pump (e.g. by automatic time-operated reversal of motor 8) the direction of liquid flow through the bed 4 is reversed, the level in container 10 rising until 13 is reached, whereupon the water with impurities flows down pipe 12 into sewer 18. Backflow along conduit 11 to pool 7 is prevented either by the slight presure head 15-13, or by the. resistance of conduit 11 and valve 16 if the level in container 10 should be above 15. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the filter bed is in a closed tank wholly above the water level in the swimming pool and the water from the pool reaches the tank via a non-return valve in a pipe leading by a T-junotion to the top of the tank, the other arm of the T also having a non-return valve and leading to the sewer.
