Abstract

1,232,572. Sand bed filter. F. W. BRAMWELL, T. BRAMWELL and J. B. BRAMWELL. 9 May, 1968, No. 11277/67. Heading B1D. Water is continually drawn from a swimming pool 11, filtered downwards through sand bed 27 and returned to pool 11 by an impeller pump 20 and pipework shown, and periodically the pump is reversed to draw water from the pool and force it upwards through the bed, whereupon non-return valve 15 on the filter inlet side closes automatically and the water level above the bed is raised to carry dirt washed from the bed over the overflow 30 to drain. After backwashing, a ballcock 32 opens to allow fresh water to enter the circuit to make up for that lost.
