Abstract
873,724. Control of several motors. SQUARE D CO. June 15, 1959 [June 18, 1958], No. 20337/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (3). Excessive speed of a hoist motor coupled to an overhauling load is prevented by means of a differential gear one input shaft of which is driven by the hoist motor whilst the other input shaft is driven by a parallel-connected constantspeed motor. The third element of the differential operates a two-way switch which opens the circuit of both motors when the third element changes its direction of rotation due to the hoist motor exceeding a predetermined speed. A push-button control system for two induction motors having a common shaft and driving a double-skip hoist is referred to. The two-way switch is effective for both directions of operation of the hoist and controls the main contactors in series with the hoist motors and the constant-speed motor. A number of the control relays are supplied at reduced voltage through a transformer, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification, the variable-speed motor is disconnected from its power source upon reaching a minimum speed at the lower end of a speed range.
