Abstract
603,091. Control of D.C. motors. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 28, 1945, No. 7794. Convention date, April 3, 1944. Addition to 583,232. [Class 38 (iii)] In the power-transmitting device described in the parent Specification, means are provided to maintain a substantially constant holding- effort by the electromagnetic clutch irrespectively of the direction in which the load is moved. The direct-current motor 20 is provided with field windings 21 and 22, and the electromagnetic clutch-winding consists of two sections 41 and 42, which may be of different resistances and of different gauges. When a selector switch 70 is moved to energize a relay 50, the field winding 21 is connected in series with the motor armature and both clutchwindings, and the load-carrying nut 26 ascends until it opens a limit-switch 73. Movement of the selector switch to close a relay 60 effects a series-connection of both motor field windings with the lower-resistance clutch-winding 41 across the motor armature, and the load descends until a limit-switch 76 is opened. At excessive lowering speeds the motor acts as a regenerative brake.
