Abstract

873,689. Vehicles with elevating platforms. COCHRAN EQUIPMENT CO. Oct. 1, 1959 [Dec. 30, 1958], No. 33322/59. Class 78 (4). A bridging member 16 (Fig. 3) slides in guides 22, 24 on the under frame of the body 10 of a vehicle. The body of the vehicle illustrated can be raised and lowered as shown in Fig. 1 by an X-linkage 18, 20 so that it serves to load or unload an aircraft 6. The bridging member 16 is extended and retracted by a connection to a lug 64 (Fig. 3) on an endless chain 62 beneath the body 10 and driven by an electric motor 56. Limit switches may prevent the bridging member 16 being extended when the body 10 is lowered, or the body 10 being lowered while the bridge 16 is extended. Doors 12, 14 in the body 10 may provide access from a passengerloading ramp.
