Abstract

Chloromethyl-sulphonyl-amino-polychloro-1-trifluoro-methyl naphthalene is prepared by nitration of 1-trifluoromethyl naphthalene, reduction of the nitro compound by, e.g. iron and acetic acid, further reduction of the amino compound with chloromethyl sulphonic acid chloride in pyridine and chlorination in the presence of FeCl3 until 4-5 chlorine atoms are taken up. b -chloroethyl-sulphnoyl trichloroaniline is prepared by chlorination of b -chloroethyl-sulphonyl-3-chloroaniline. b ,b - dichloroethyl-sulphonyl trichloroaniline is prepared by chlorination of b ,b -dichloroethyl-sulphonyl-3-chloroaniline.ALSO:A method of protecting materials against termite attack comprises impregnation with or the incorporation of, or spraying with a solution or emulsion of, a chloromethyl- or chloroethyl sulphonic acid aryl amide of formula R-SO2-NH-Aryl where R is methyl or ethyl substituted by 1 to 3 chlorine atoms and "Aryl" is an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl or naphthyl nucleus. Specified compounds include chloromethyl sulphonic acid phenyl amide, chloromethyl-sulphonyl-2,4-dichloroaniline, chloromethyl-sulphonyl-2,4,5-trichloroaniline, chloromethyl - sulphonyl - 2 - trifluoromethyl - 4 8 chloroaniline, chloromethyl-sulphonyl - 3 - trifluoromethyl - 4,5,6 - trichloroaniline, chloromethyl - sulphonyl - 3 - trifluoromethyl - 5,6 - dichloroaniline and many others. They may be used in solution in acetone, paraffin or incorporated into polyethylene.
