Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula Ar(-NHCF3)1 or 2 wherein Ar is an aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical substituted by at least one of halogen nitro, nitrile, trifluoromethyl, -COX and -SO2X, X being halogen, alkoxy, alkyl or aryl. Ar may also be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy and/or acyloxy radicals. Specified compounds are the N-trifluoromethyl derivatives of 4-chloro, 2,4- and 2,5-dichloro, and 2,4,6-trichloroaniline; 2-chloro and 2,4-dichloro -5- methylaniline; 3- and 4-nitro, 2-methyl -5- nitro and 4-methoxycarboxylaniline; 2,4-difluoro -6- aminotriazine. The compounds are produced by reacting an isocyanide dichloride Ar(-N=CCl2)1 or 2 with excess anhydrous hydrofluoric acid. Specification 908,733 is referred to.ALSO:Fungicidal and herbicidal compositions contain a compound of formula Ar(-NHCF3)1 or 2 and a solid or liquid diluent or carrier, Ar is an aromatic, carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical substituted by at least one of halogen, nitro, nitrile, trifluoromethyl, -COX and -SO2X, X being halogen, alkoxy, alkyl or aryl; Ar may also be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy and/or acyloxy radicals. N-trifluoromethyl-4-chloroaniline and N-trifluoromethyl-2,4-dichloroaniline and tested against fungi by dissolving in dimethylformamide, adding polyhydroxyethylenebenzyl ether and diluting the concentrate with water.
