A tyre carcase comprises a plurality of superposed radial cord plies 10, 11, 12, Fig. 3, or a plurality of superposed pairs of symmetrically cross-laid parallel cord plies 4 and 5, 6 and 7 and 8 and 9, Fig. 2, the extensibility of the cords in successive radial cord plies, or successive pairs of cross-laid plies, increasing from the innermost plies 4, 5 to the outermost plies 8, 9. The different extensibilities may be achieved by the use of cords of the same or different material and/or of different twist or structure.
