Class 40(6) In an "EXCLUSIVE-OR" circuit the earthing of either of input lines a, b, but not both, causes a potential difference to be established between output lines c, d, due to the potential difference produced across the centre-tapped impedance R3 as a result of the asymmetry produced by the earthing. The impedance R3 may be replaced by two oppositely poled diodes Fig. 2 (not shown). In the arrangement illustrated the potential difference between the lines c, d is used to energized a relay C via the transistor T. Alternatively the relay C may be operated directly from the output on lines c, d.
