873,360. Dispensing liquids by weight. EARNSHAW, J. W. Sept. 1, 1959 [Oct. 20, 1958], No. 33366/58. Class 143 A container supported on the platform of a weighing apparatus is automatically filled with a predetermined weight of liquid through a pourer 11 by means of a feed valve 10 having a pivoted actuating lever 9 which is held in valveopen position by a suction head 7, 8 connected to a vacuum conduit 3, an element 14 on the weighing apparatus being movable in response to the required weight of liquid in the container to open the conduit 3 to atmosphere thereby breaking the suction and permitting the lever 9 and valve 10 to fall to valve-closed position. As shown the element 14 is a shim on the end of a weigh beam 12 movable to uncover a port 15 in the conduit 3. Where the weighing apparatus comprises a pointer moving around a dial, an axially flanged disc on the pointer spindle may have a gap in its flange to register with a port in the vacuum conduit when the required weight is registered by the pointer. In this case the port is provided in a radial arm which is angularly adjustable to the required pre-set weight position.
