Abstract
873,188. Feeding extrusion machines. ENGEL, T. P. May 11, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 18862/59. Class 87(2). An extrusion machine has means to heat and plasticise the material before it is fed to the screw comprising a rotatable table 15 heated from underneath by heaters 18, so that material fed from a hopper 42 is carried round on the table and heated, and a radial scraper 35 to pick up the heated material and deliver it into a cylinder 23 containing a rotating extrusion screw 24. The cylinder 23 may be diametrally placed across the table 15 and inclined to the horizontal and may be stepped internally at 37 and then gradually taper to the die. The screw 24 may also have a core of gradually increasing size of a thread of decreasing pitch. The feed hopper 42 has an adjustable gate 45 which may be adjusted to enable the screw to operate at a constant rate. The hopper may have a vibrator.
