Abstract

Granulated, fibrous, or floury material is precompacted and mixed by the conically tapering portion 4 of a screw which rotates in a conically tapering casing 8 having a thread 9 of the same hand and which delivers to an extrusion chamber 15<SP>1</SP>, wherefrom a reciprocating piston 16 extrudes it through the circular aperture of an internally conically tapering die 17. The material is fed by a bladed rotor 7 from a hopper 6 into a constant diameter portion 3 of the screw, which is rotated by a variable speed transmission. The die 17 is located by screw threads, permitting die interchangeability.
