Abstract

1292519 Granulated denture cleaning compositions COLGATE PALMOLIVE CO 13 April 1970 [14 April 1969] 17452/70 Heading C5D A powder composition for cleaning dentures is converted to granular form by (a) compressing and de-aerating it, (b) extruding it as a sheet, (c) breaking the sheet into granules and (d) separating granules of a particular size range from under- and over-sized material. In a particular embodiment, Fig. 1, the composition ingredients are introduced at hopper 12, mixed whilst being transported by screws 44 and 46 and conduit 20 to hopper 22 and transported by screw 24 to screw 26 which compresses and de-aerates them before expelling them through constructed outlet 52. The expelled material is rolled into a sheet which is broken up by rotating blades mounted on axle 30. Grid 32 retains the material in contact with the blades until it is fine enough to pass through to sorter 36, which screens out under- and oversized material for recycling via conduit 38 and discharges granules of the desired size at 42. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), sheet extruded from the rollers is first broken into chips and flakes by an upper set of rotating blades (86) and then falls to a lower set (88) where it is granulated.
