Abstract
In the purification of sugar juices by simultaneous addition of lime in portions and carbon dioxide whereby the pH value of the juice is changed stagewise, the transition from one pH stage to the next taking place suddenly, until a final pH value of 11 is reached and the total quantity of lime and carbon dioxide used being sufficient for precipitation of colloids, conversion of non-precipitable substances and formation of calcium carbonate as a filtration aid, a portion of the sludge juice produced in the last or penultimate stage or of the separated colloid sludge is added to the crude juice and/or to at least one of the stages. German Specification 1,013,590 is referred to.
