Abstract

514,877. Treating foul waters. VREESE, A. DE. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4349. Vold. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1937. [Class 111] Waste waters, such as those from woolwashing, bleaching, dyeworks or laundries, are treated with carbon dioxide either prior to or simultaneously with the addition of an alkalineearth compound, such as lime or calcium carbonate, the effect being to convert alkaline carbonates present in the waste water into bicarbonates and alkaline-metal soaps into alkaline-earth soaps. The alkaline-earth soaps and greases present in the water may then be removed therefrom by filtration preferably with the assistance of a filter aid.
