Abstract
872,906. Percussive tools ; centre punches. LUSHINGTON TOOL & GAUGE CO. Ltd. March 31, 1960 [March 31, 1959], No. 10838/59. Classes 61 and 124. An impact punch for marking component parts or for inserting components into position in a device, comprises a tool holder 8 axially displaceable in a hand grip casing 1, an impact hammer 14 slidable in the casing behind the holder 8 and pressed into engagement therewith under the control of a loaded coil spring 15 or pneumatic member and operable by a pivoted hand grip 33 to retract and then release the hammer whereby to apply an impact blow to the tool holder. As shown the casing 1 is closed at its upper end by a spring loaded adjustable thimble 18 and lock nut 16, the thimble being mounted to rotate and move axially inwards to adjust the loading of the spring 15. The casing 1 is closed at the other end by a sleeve 2 having a bore splined at 6 to receive a tool holder 5 in selected angular position. The tool holder 5 is controlled by a light spring 12 contained within a cap 3 screwed on the end of the casing 1. The sleeve 2 carries the pivoted handle 33 which is engaged intermediate its ends by a trip pawl 26 carried by the hammer plug 14.
