Abstract
Heterocyclic nitrogen - containing compounds with an imino group in the ring and an acyl substituent are substituted on the nitrogen atom by a tertiary aminoalkyl group by reaction with a tertiary aminoalkyl halide in the presence of sodamide at a moderately high temperature, preferably between 60 DEG and 80 DEG C., in dimethyl formamide as solvent. Compounds prepared in this way are 1-(31-diethyl-aminopropyl)-2,4-dimethyl -3- acetyl-pyrole, 2-acetyl-9-(21-dimethylaminoethyl-carbazole, 3-acetyl -1- (31-dimethylaminopropyl)-phenothiazine, and 3-acetyl-1-(31diethylaminopropyl)-phenothiazine. The heterocyclic compound may first be reacted with the sodamide to form the sodio derivative, which is then reacted with the aminoalkyl halide.
