Abstract

A linear-trans-quinacridone-quinone is obtained by cyclizing a 2,5-bis-(o-carboxyarylamino)-1,4-benzoquinone having the formula <FORM:1020068/C4-C5/1> in which the two radicals Ar denote the same aromatic radical produced by allowing an oxidizing agent to act in a solvent on an o-carboxyarylamine having the general formula HOOC-Ar-NH2 in which Ar has the above meaning, in the presence of benzoquinone or hydroquinone. The cyclization may be carried out with concentrated sulphuric acid.ALSO:In a process for the production of 2,5-bis-(o-carboxyaryl - amino) - 1,4 - benzoquinones having the general formula <FORM:1020068/C2/1> in which the two radicals Ar denote the same aromatic radical an oxidizing agent is allowed to act in a solvent on an o-carboxyarylamine having the general formula HOOC-Ar-NH2, in which Ar has the above meaning in the presence of benzoquinone or hydroquinone. Examples are furnished. The products may be cyclized to form linear-trans-quinacridonequinones.
