872,534. Lighting fittings. HOLOPHANE Ltd. Oct. 3, 1957 [Oct. 3, 1956], No. 30174/56. Class 75(2). A lighting fitting for use with long linear light sources e.g. fluorescent tubes comprises a reflector 15, an elongated enclosure 14 longer than the light source 33, the base 11 having ribs prisms or similar formations to control the light distribution, the sides being diffusing and/or reflecting and terminating in inwardly directed horizontal margins and the ends also being diffusing and/or reflecting, the edges of the reflector and of the enclosure being shaped to coact to locate the body in closed position but to permit removal of the body by lifting one side and moving the body transversely so that it can be swung down on one upper edge or removed by further shifting in the opposite direction. The reflector and body may be provided with interacting corrugations 16, 17, 18, the corrugations 16 housing a felt strip 19 to minimize the entry of dust. The end pieces may be separate and held in place by disengageable clamping plates 23 carried by the reflector. The reflector may be flat and support a box 26 for auxiliary electric fittings. The fitting may have flat sides and base, or the sides and ends may be curved and the base of trough form. Specifications 380,867, 551,109 and 619,084 are referred to.
