Abstract

871,973. Electromagnetic interrupters. MASON ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Sept. 18, 1958 [Feb. 3, 1958], No. 29876/58. Class 38 (5). A unidirectionally-driven rotary switch is driven by a rotary solenoid 20, Fig. 1, of known construction having an energizable stationary coil 24 which advances an armature 22. The coil is energized both through an interrupter switch 26 having a movable contact 32 oscillating between open and closed positions, and a control switch having a movable contact 38 engaging with circumferentially-spaced contacts 40 seriatim. The interrupter switch 26 is mechanically coupled to the armature 22 by a coupling 46 having a resilient lost-motion connection 48. The control-switch 28, and other switches 30 coupled thereto are coupled to the solenoid 20 by a unidirectional coupling-means 50, 52 having a lost-motion connection 54, 56. The coupling- means 50, 52 engage with arms 96, 98 of a yoke 94 extending into openings 190 in a plate 192 having notches (not shown) for tabs 196 on a ratchet disc 198. The notches and openings are spaced at 90 degrees. Disc 198 is biased into engagement by means of a leafspring 202 with a complementary disc 200 fixed to a shaft 126. When the solenoid is energized discs 198, 200 and shaft 126 rotate together but on the return stroke produced by return-springs 100, 136, disc 198 slips relatively to disc 200 so that shaft 126 remains stationary. By means of a free outlet hunting circuit (Fig. 12, not shown), the switch may be driven round to any selected position. The switches 28, 30 are generally of known construction having movable roller contacts 38, 42 which drop when stationary into recesses 154, Fig. 10, having trailing sides 156 which lift the roller so that the rollers do not drop into the next recess and make contact while the switches are hunting. A gap 180 is provided in insulating segments between the stationary contacts to obviate metal tracking. Specifications 837,432, 837,433, 837,434, 871,974 and 871,975 are referred to.
