Abstract

871,405. Locking nuts etc.; clamps. BENSON BOND Ltd. Oct. 2, 1959 [Oct. 25, 1958], No. 34232/58. Classes 44 and 89(1). A locknut or a clamp comprises a body 11 with a bore 16 which is screwed for the nut and plain for the clamp, an arcuate slot 14 extending through the axial thickness of the body and connected to the bore at one end by a radial slot 15 to form a deflectable wing 13, and means e.g. a grub screw in a bore 18, for deflecting the wing into clamping engagement with a screw, rod &c. passing through the bore 16. The nut or clamp may be made by an investment casting process, the mould being spun about the nut &c. axis during casting to orientate the grain circumferentially.
