Abstract
Transparent tin oxide coatings having an electrical resistance of 30 to 90 ohms/square are produced on a glass or ceramic surface, by projecting on to the heated surface in an oxidising atmosphere, a tin halide together with a basic halide of molybdenum and/or niobium, preferably in amounts from 0.1 to 10 parts per 100 parts of tin halide. A small amount of ammonium fluoride may be added. An example refers to heating a glass surface in a current of oxygen to 500 DEG C. and projecting thereon vapours of stannous chloride, and niobium oxychloride or molybdenum oxychloride with or without ammonium fluoride.
