Abstract
871,259. Interrupters. DON-LAN ELECTRONICS Inc. Nov. 9, 1959 [Nov. 20, 1958], No. 37924/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XL (b)] A high-frequency coaxial line switch comprises a hollow conductive body 11 to which three or more coaxial connectors, e.g. 12, 13, 14 are attached, the output connectors, e.g. 13, 14 being intermittently brought into conductive contact with the input connector 12 by means of sliding contactors 25, 26. These consist of insulating sleeves surrounding conductive split sleeves 31, 33 which slide upon the inner conductors 35, 36 of the output connectors and are urged into conductive contact with the fixed inner conductor 24 of the input connector by springs 29, 30. The sliding contacts are actuated in turn by an insulating roller 22 mounted eccentrically at the end of a motor shaft 18. The diameter of the roller may be such that both sleeves 31, 33 contact the inner conductor 24 simultaneously as it passes from one to the other, thus affording a make-before-break switching action. Alter-- natively, the roller may be dimensioned for a break-before-make action. The dimensions of the springs 29, 30 are such that, when in the expanded (closed circuit) position, they form a matched coaxial line section with the corresponding inner conductors 35, 36 and when compressed they present a mismatch. The insulated contactors 25, 26 may carry outer conductive sleeves (not shown). In this case, the roller 22 is made of conductive material and is arranged to shortcircuit the inner sleeves 31, 33 to the outer (earthed) sleeves. To eliminate mechanical chatter, the inner conductor 24 may be provided with spring contacts (not shown) which cushion the engagement of the sleeves 31, 33 with the conductor. The interior of the switch may be filled with dielectric oil.
