Class 139 In an alarm timepiece a resilient frictional retaining member exerts a radial pressure on the alarm setting shaft. In the first embodiment, Fig. 1, the alarm setting shaft 13 is gripped in the recesses 14b of the limbs of a U-shaped retaining member 14, the stud 14c of which fits into a hole in the frame plate 10. Axial movement of the shaft is prevented by collars or washers. In another example the retaining element is in the form of a hairpin-shaped spring which embraces the shaft and the ends of which are pulled together by a ring member. The shaft may be retained by a U-shaped wire element 30 the free ends of which are located in a triangular hole 10d and the base end of which is located in a key-hole slot 10c, Fig. 5. The shaft may be retained by a piece of spring wire one end of which is anchored to the movement plate and the other end of which abuts a rivet. The shaft may be located in a slot 10f of the movement plate 10 which is slotted at 10h and 10g to provide the necessary resilience, Fig. 9.
