[Also in Group XXI] An apparatus for measuring and indicating the speed of locally-arranged hydraulic driving- motors for deep bores comprises an hydraulic impulse generator connected with the driving motor so that impulses from the generator have a frequency depending upon the speed of the driving-motor, and a remotely disposed indicating instrument responsive to the frequency of the impulses. The hydraulic boring turbine has a rotor a and a stator b each provided with discs e, f, preventing axial and radial movement of the rotor, and with turbine stages u and v. At one end of the rotor a a disc h is fixed which has a number of holes k corresponding with holes i in a disc g fixed to the stator b. When the holes are in register the turbine driving fluid flows to stages u, v through passages c, d. The fluid is thus given a series of impulses which are reflected back from the bottom of the bore-hole and depend upon the speed of rotation of the rotor a. The impulses act upon a diaphragm in the fluid supply line which may be made to operate an acoustic instrument, a reed type frequency meter or other indicating instrument electrically or otherwise. The indicating instrument may be connected to electrical limit switch gear in known manner to raise or lower the boring-rods to which the turbine is attached and thus readjust the speed should it fall below or exceed predetermined limits. The discs h and g may themselves act as a sound producer and the portions between the holes may consist solely of vanes so that the discs form an additional turbine stage.
