870,044. Air filters. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. March 28, 1960 [April 27, 1959], No. 10842/60. Class 8(2). A method of making a filter comprises folding a strip of filter material back and forth on itself such that two alternating series of fold lengths are produced, long 6 and short 7 ; attaching grids 1 to the compressed inclined stack 4 by glue lines 8 extending over the breadth of the stock 4 the glue base 8 being adjacent the long sides 6 such that when the grids 1 are moved directly opposite each other, the layers of the folded strip will be separated as the strip is expanded, the folds 6 and 7 becoming of equal length. The corrugated wrapping 2, including a flat sheet 2a, to which adhesive has been applied, is then wrapped around the filter element between the grids 1 and is enclosed in the paper wrapping to complete the filter. The grids 1 are formed from narrow parallel strips, spaced apart by corrugated strips glued thereto.
