Abstract
958,496. Folding paper. KIMBERLYCLARK CORPORATION. May 23, 1960 [April 22, 1960 (2)], No. 18110/60. Heading B6H. [Also in Divisions B8, D1 and D2] Folded crepe tissues in stack form are compressed and then released prior to cartoning so that the stack height is permanently reduced. The tissues may be folded to C form, Fig. 7, or interleaved, Fig. 10. Means is provided to induce a given moisture content to the paper (see Division D2). Tissues in web form W1 and having the desired moisture content are fed by belts 42 past folders 50 which turn over the margins 57, 58 to produce the fold arrangement of Fig. 7. The stacked webs 59 are fed beneath a cutter 60 by a belt 45 and the individual stacks then pass between chains 125, 126 which apply the necessary compressive force to produce a permanent set. Alternatively, the webs may be interleaved by folders 150, 151 situated alternately on opposite sides of the belt 157 on which the webs are stacked, to produce the arrangement of Fig. 10. Each folder doubles the web concerned beneath the upper fold of the already folded web which it overlies and may be as in U.S.A. Specification 3,066,932. Data concerning desirable moisture percentages, compression pressures and times is given.
