Abstract

1311277 Package of sheet glass PILKING- TON BROS Ltd B ANDREWS J C PILKING- TON and B W RILEY 21 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 37861/69 Heading B8C [Also in Division E2] A stack 3 of glass sheets 4 in vertical face-toface relation is secured to L-shaped supporting brackets 1 by means of straps 10. The straps 10 may extend between pins (11, 12) provided, respectively, at the ends of the arms 2, 5 of the bracket, or may completely encircle the stack, the arms 2, 5 being of hollow or channel-section to receive the stop. Additional straps 9, 14 may be provided, straps 14 passing through loops 15 at the rear of arms 5. The arms 2, 5 of the bracket have padding 24, 25 on their inner surfaces. Protector units 6, which may comprise an outer rigid corner piece (7) having ribs (20) to receive the strap, and an inner flexible corner piece (8) of packing material, or may comprise a corner piece of compressed laminated cardboard, are provided where a strap passes over an edge of the stack. Boards 13 having grooves 19 to receive the straps 10 are provided to protect the stack and straps when two packages are stacked. The arms 2 are provided with prongs 16 at the rear and apertures 17 at the front to locate the packages in side-by-side relation. Fastening lugs 18 may be provided on the arms 2 and wooden blocks may be secured to the undersides of the arms 2 to permit the insertion of a lifting device. In a modification, two stacks of glass sheets may be supported, one on top of the other, by the brackets 1, the stacks being separated by wooden blocks and being separately encircled by straps 9.
