Abstract
869,493. Feeding material to tableting machines. HOLROYD & CO. Ltd., JOHN. March 21, 1960 [May 21, 1959], No. 17247/59. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXX] In a rotary die table machine for forming tablets powdered material as fed from a hopper 59, Fig 3. through a hole 58, Fig. 4, into the housing 21 of an input rotor 47 which in turn feeds it through apertures 53, 54, 55, so that it can be compressed by upper and lower rams 15, 13, in the dies 12, Fig. 1, moving in a circular path about an axis 11. Excess material is fed to an excess control rotor 48 which in turn feeds it through an alternative aperture 52 to the dies 12. Any excess building up into a space which is above the rotor 48, and which can be restricted by means of a filler plate 51, is deflected by a curved vane 50 to the rotor 47. This prevents further material from being fed from the hopper 59 until the surplus has been reduced. The housing 21 is pivotably located at one end by a pin 20, and at the other by a sprung catch 22 so that if a broken ram 15 drops on to the rotary table 10, the housing 21 is caused to swing outwardly by the ram engaging the side thereof, thus disconnecting the drive gear 41 from a driven gear 38 operating the rotor 47. Apertures 60, 61 are provided so that any material entering the joint between the die table 10 and the housing 21 can be sucked away.
