Abstract
The outer covering of a golf ball is formed by a liquid urethane polymer which is injected into a mould containing a spherical core carrying rubber strand wound under tension. In one example 100 parts by weight of a saturated urethane polymer of the polyether type containing 4-4,3% of isocyanate groups by weight is mixed with eleven parts by weight of a diamine curing agent and twenty parts by weight of a whitener, titanium dioxide. The mixture is injected at 200 p.s.i. to fill the mould and penetrate the rubber windings at 95 DEG F., and on removal from the mould the ball is allowed to cure at room temperature for two weeks. The mould and the injection material may be heated up to 175 DEG F. in order to decrease the necessary moulding pressure.
