Abstract

1,058,307. Bowling pins. POLYMER CORPORATION. April 13, 1964 [April 12, 1963], No. 15147/64. Heading A6D. [Also in Division B5]. A bowling pin comprises a foamed polylactam core and a solid polylactam cover, and is formed by a moulding process. One method of making the pin comprises forming the core first by inserting into a heated mould a lactam monomer, a catalyst, a promotor and a blowing agent, the core being formed by the simultaneous blowing of the blowing agent and polymerization of the core material by the heat of the mould the completed core is then placed in a second heated mould having a larger cavity than the first, and is coated with a polymerizable mixture composed of a lactam monomer, a catalyst and a promoter. Alternatively, the cover (of nylon for example) is moulded first about a temporary core. the latter being subsequently removed from the cover, which is then filled with a polymerizable mixture to make a foamed polylactam core as above.
