Abstract

869,385. Fastening railway rails to sleepers. LOCKSPIKE Ltd. Feb. 19, 1960 [Feb. 20, 1959; June 19, 1959], Nos. 5969/59 and 21218/59. Addition to 861,473. Class 104 (2). The rail fastener of the parent Specification has its first portion slightly bowed or provided with a short lateral projection or formed with a hole in or extending through it for the reception of a pin. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6 the first portion 7 of the fastener has a lateral projection 18 which engages in an aperture 21 provided in a rib 3 formed in a base member to prevent removal of the fastener. In a modification shown in Fig. 7 a hole is formed radially through the first portion 7 for the reception of a pin 23 which may pass through the aperture 21 or abut the end 24 of the rib 3 to prevent the first portion 7 of the fastener being removed from the passage formed in the rib 3 of the base member. In a further modification shown in Fig. 9 the first portion 7 is bowed to engage the upper surface of the passage 6 formed by the rib 3. In the assembly shown in Fig. 8 four fasteners, two on each side of the rail, are used and the lateral projection 18 on each fastener engages the end of a rib 3 formed in the base member 4. The second Provisional Specification describes an assembly, Figs. 5, 6 and 7 (not shown), in which the upper side of the passages formed by the ribs are arched to receive the bowed first portion of the fastener. A further embodiment in the second Provisional Specification, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), describes an assembly in which a hooked side projection formed in the base member engages one side of the rail flange and a fastening member, having a bowed first portion engaged in an aperture through the base member parallel to the rail, engages the other rail flange.
