Abstract

The resistance to oxidative degradation by natural or synthetic unvulcanized polyisoprene elastomers on heating or in storage is increased by the addition to the latex or the raw solid polymer of reducing substances, exemplified by polyalkylene polyamines such as diethylene triamine, triethylene tetra-amine and tetraethylene pentamine, aromatic diamines such as benzidine and phenylene diamine, hydrazine, and alkali metal sulphites and bisulphites. The reducing action of the selected additive may be supplemented by a chelating agent such as ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid or its salts. Specification 676,189 is referred to.
