Abstract
868,959. Centrifugal casting machines; mould materials. COMPAGNIE DE PONT-AMOUSSON. April 21, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 13518/59. Class 83 (1). A process for centrifugally casting a tubular, cast or spheroidal graphite, iron member comprises rotating a metal mould 4 at casting speed or higher, applying to the walls of the mould a thin layer 19 of a fine, dry silica flour, and then casting the member. The mould 4 is surrounded by a water jacket 5 and is rotated by a motor 6 on a carriage 1 traversed by a ram 10. Dry silica flour is blown from a container 13 along a pipe 16 on to the mould face. The flour may consist of sediments of diatomaceous earth, metal oxides and lime, and its grains have an elongated form having a maximum diameter between 0.03 and 0.09 of a millimetre. Instead of blowing-on the coating, it may be tipped from a trough.
