Abstract
1,056,956. Centrifugal casting. UNITED STATES PIPE & FOUNDRY CO. July 15, 1965 [July 17. 1964]. No. 30179/65. Heading B3F. Centrifugal pipe casting apparatus comprises a rotatable mould 1, Fig. 1 (not shown) and a pouring trough 2 which are relatively movable along or parallel to the axis of the mould to facilitate spreading molten metal uniformly along the inner surface of the mould. The trough 2 is mounted for axial rotation in bearings 10, 11 carried on a shifter plate 7 which in turn is supported on rails 18, 20 to permit displacement of the trough transversely when it is outside the mould when the pouring is completed. The transverse displacement of the trough after the pouring operation is effected by hydraulic means '21. Rollers 13 mounted on the extension' 6 of the trough are guided during this transverse movement by an angle member 14. At a predetermined position the rollers engage a coupling member 23 attached to a motor 25 which rotates the trough through a given angular displacement to discharge any residue molten metal from the trough. A spray lance may be mounted spaced from but parallel to the trough so that the internal surface of the mould can be spray coated by relative longitudinal movement between the spraylance and mould when the pouring trough is in its residue .discharge position outside the mould.
